The original Windcheetah recumbent was created some two decades ago and it set six important endurance and speed records. In 2007 a new model emerged, the Windcheetah HyperSport Series II with a lot of improved features. With a framework made almost entirely of carbon fiber, the very lightweight Windcheetah HyperSport Series II is perfect for any type of riders.
The main part of the existing chassis is assembled from six CNC machined LM25 heat treated aluminium castings and four tubes that are produced from carbon fiber. The chassis is hand built and final assembly takes place in a bench mounted jig, this assembly is then bonded together with high performance structural adhesive.
The challenge was to Reverse Engineer an axial part and produce the relevant information for its reproduction, which included correctly tolerancing the drawing and creating manufacturing ready CAD data.
We successfully reproduced the axial part, resulting in a design that could easily be manufactured. We also performed some Finite Element Analysis on the part and helped to reduce material while increasing strength.
